Porn on the internet is easy to access, and short porn tubes are free. Many—probably most—men and more and more women watch porn to access someone else’s fantasy to masturbate, and sometimes to inspire more lust in their sex lives.

Most porn is visually arousing. There are plenty of erotic depictions of oral sex, intercourse and intense kissing. Some of the tubes feature heterosexual couples, while others focus on gay, lesbian and transgendered sex.

Most of the porn for free offers no or very meager scripts to interest sophisticated consumers. Women and more and more men prefer some script to enhance their titillating arousal. Most porn is on a low budget, and it shows in the lack of good acting from an enticing script.

Viewers have different preferences, and there are many categories of porn to interest someone. Consumers may prefer neighbor porn which features a new neighbor being invited to have sex to be neighborly. The neighbor may come by with mail in the wrong box or a desire to borrow sugar. In the process someone almost always seduces someone else.

Anything resembling erotic fantasies is welcome. The taboo is erotic to some. The category of professor-student sex or sex with a co-worker or boss may entice. Group sex and swinging offer fantasies for some to enjoy. Some want interracial sex or anal sex.

These and many other categories are typically listed on the home page of porn sites such as Hamster, X Videos and YouPorn, to name a few free tube sites. There is something for most people unless they are offended by or not interested in porn.

Some worry that porn will cause erection problems with a lover, but the research on this is not convincing that porn is the reason for erectile dysfunction. There are numerous anti-porn sites such as NoFap.com and YourBrainonPorn.com which argue that porn causes a host of problems, but the research cited is interpreted by absolute amateurs with no sexology credentials.

A more accurate site supported by sex researchers and sex therapists is RealYourBrainonSex.com. I am listed as one of the sex experts on this site.

Most porn would be more interesting and more erotic if production companies were to focus on quality scripts and acting. Some porn—the bad and the ugly—is unhealthy, with images of incest, forced sex and exploitation. It is difficult to scan through porn sites without finding these unfortunate images. The emphasis on unhealthy and destructive sex hurts the image of porn in general.

Child porn is another example of exploitive and unhealthy images (the bad and the ugly), but it is actually hard to find child porn because it is illegal, and there are severe consequences for those who produce or view such material. I have known men who obtained child porn from file sharing sites and they were or are in jail.

There is porn and there is porn. It is not all alike. Censorship is not the answer for images some do not like. As I emphasize in my TED Talk (on my homepage at www.drrogerlibby.com) the answer is to develop higher quality erotica with a script. Since most people of all ages get their sex education from porn, it behooves us to imagine and develop accurate and healthy porn.

Some sex education is being developed in schools, but most of it is too watered down and moralistic to be useful. Comprehensive, evidence-based sex education is a compliment to the wide range of sexually explicit images on the Internet. Such an approach must be sex-positive, which is what I offer in my book for teenagers available at Amazon, The Naked Truth About Sex, and in my sex therapy practice.
